I'm not a fan of this transfer news, and I think it's a mistake for Tottenham Hotspur to be in advanced talks to sell Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough. While Lankshear hasn't quite made it to the first team yet, he has shown promise during his loan spell with Oxford United, and there are some compelling reasons to keep him in the squad.
Firstly, Lankshear is homegrown and club-trained, which is a valuable asset for any team. With Tottenham's current lack of recognized strikers, Lankshear could have been a useful addition to the squad as a reserve option. His playing style and attributes also bear some similarities to the young Harry Kane, which is no small feat.
However, it seems that Tottenham is willing to sell him for a profit, which is a short-sighted move in my opinion. Lankshear has value beyond his playing ability, and selling a homegrown/club-trained striker when the team is trying to regain European competition seems counterproductive. It's possible that Tottenham is getting an offer they can't refuse, but I think they're making a mistake by not recognizing the potential of a player who could have been a key part of the team's future.
From my perspective, Tottenham should be looking to build on their youth academy success and keep hold of their homegrown talents. Selling Lankshear would be a step back in that regard, and I hope that the club reconsiders its decision. It's a shame to see a player with so much potential leave the club, and I think it's a missed opportunity for Tottenham to develop a homegrown striker who could have been a key part of the team's future success.
