The Summit High boys golf team, led by head coach Zach Dobrota, is a diverse group of 15 talented individuals spanning all four grade levels. Dobrota believes this season's roster is particularly strong, with seasoned tournament players and a group of seniors who are poised to make a significant impact.
Among the seniors, Parker Gray, Hunter Plummer, and Sawyer Coffman stand out. All three have expressed aspirations to continue their golfing careers beyond high school, and Dobrota has high expectations for their performance.
"These seniors have the potential to really shine this season," Dobrota said. "They've been working hard and their dedication is paying off."
Other notable players include Jack Tobias, Jagger Roberts, Jaxx Roberts, and Fisher Woodard, who Dobrota believes have the skills to peak at the right time and make a difference in tournaments.
A Competitive Edge
One of the unique challenges for the Summit High team is the geographical advantage enjoyed by their Front Range opponents. With more golfing facilities and longer seasons, Front Range high schools will present a formidable test for the Tigers.
"The competition down there is intense," Dobrota explained. "The proximity to golf courses and the year-round golf seasons give their players an edge."
One particularly challenging tournament will be hosted at the Air Force Academy's Eisenhower Golf Club, known for its tough greens. Dobrota believes this will be a true test of the team's short game and putting abilities.
Keeping the Focus
With a talented and closely matched team, playing time will be hard-earned. Dobrota emphasizes the importance of a positive mindset and mental toughness.
"Golf is as much a mental game as it is physical," he said. "I want to see my players manage their expectations and keep a level head, even in the face of adversity."
Despite the competitive nature of the season, Dobrota's ultimate goal is for the team to enjoy themselves. He wants the players to remember that they are students first and golfers second, and to have fun while representing their school.
